Maker Faire

Environmental Maker Faire

Educators of students in grades 3-12 are invited to join us for our Annual Environmental Maker Faire.

MEEC is pleased to announce that the 2024 Environmental Maker Faire will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Granite Hills High
School in Apple Valley. Teams will spend the day rotating through the Maker arena engaging with experts to ignite their creativity, innovation, and inner inventor as they learn how to create and visualize solutions to real world environmental problems while having fun with hands-on activities. Topics will focus on “green” themes such as air quality, transportation, geology and mining, local watersheds and more!  We are also pleased to bring back Joel Greene, the host of PBS’s Curiosity Quest as our keynote speaker!

Teams of three to eight students in grades 3 through 12, along with an attending teacher/adult advisor, from schools throughout MEEC’s service boundaries are invited to take part in this unique and FREE event. The event is limited to the first 30 teams that sign up.

New to this year’s event is our team Sustainable City Competition.   The 2024 competition challenge theme is “Powering our Future”.
Competing teams will be tasked to design their version of a sustainable city that features a resilient power grid that can withstand and quickly recover from a natural disaster.

Winning teams will receive $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. Teams that compete will also be part of
the Maker Fair Exhibition Hall to share their designs with other teams.

While we encourage all attending teams to participate in this year’s competition, teams attending the 2024 Maker Faire are not required
to compete.

Lunch, snacks, re-usable water bottles, T-shirts, and all conference materials are provided free of charge. Additionally, teams participating in this year’s Maker Faire Competition are eligible to apply for a project grant up to $100 to help purchase supplies for their model.

This year, we are making every effort to make attending the event readily available by providing Transportation Reimbursement funds upon request (if applicable) for participating teams.

We look forward to seeing you there!
