The Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District, the Mojave Environmental Education Consortium and the Mojave Desert Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association invite your school to participate in our 2016 “Outstanding Environmental Science Project Awards” program.
The purpose of our program – which is open to students in grades K-12 attending school in the High Desert portion of San Bernardino County, Blythe and the Antelope Valley – is to promote environmental education in local schools. To this end, the MDAQMD, MEEC – a local organization that connects teachers with quality, STEM-based environmental education resources, and the local chapter of A&WMA – an international organization of environmental professionals – have joined forces to recognize local students who develop outstanding environmentally-themed projects for competition in local or regional school Science Fairs.
Winners of school-level competitions will be awarded $25 Gift Cards, while winners of District, regional and higher level Science Fairs will receive $50 Gift Cards. Winners will also receive a special ribbon and certificate in recognition of their efforts. One winner per Fair will be selected, based on availability of judges. As limited award funds are available, only the first 20 schools to respond will be selected for participation on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, you are encouraged to complete and return the Science Fair Judging Application as soon as possible, but no later than January 26, 2016.
If your school is selected, one of our representatives will attend your Fair judging event to select the recipient of our Outstanding Environmental Science Project Award from eligible entries.
To help interested students develop their environmentally-themed science fair projects, we have included a list of environmental science fair project topics your students may want to consider. Please feel free to photocopy and share this form with any students with an interest in developing an environmentally-themed project for consideration in our competition, or with their teachers.
We look forward to participating in your Science Fair and recognizing your outstanding students. For more information about our awards program, please contact Christie Robinson at (760) 245-1661, ext. 6101.
