High Desert Power Project presents the first essay contest of 2016 entitled “REUSE IT!”
How often have you thrown something away just because you’re done with it? Everyday we all use things that can be reused. Maybe we drink soda or bottled water, or drink juice or milk. What happens to the containers when we’re done? We all outgrow shoes and clothes sometimes. Do we just throw them away when this happens? Car tires go flat and fall apart but we don’t need to get rid of them– did you know they can be used to make soft ground cover for playgrounds?
Reusing items is one of the best ways to stop waste and save energy, plus there are tons of opportunities to put it into practice every day.
In 500 words or less, can you tell us three different ways YOU reuse things more than once?
There are five prize categories:
Kindergarten: Can draw a picture with 2-3 sentences about the concept
Elementary School (grades 1-2)
Elementary School (grades 3-5)
Middle School (grades 6-8)
High School (grades 9-12)
First, second, and third place winners will be awarded gift cards in each category. First place winners will receive $50, second place $25, and third place will receive $15. Kindergarten winners only will receive a $10 award for all places instead of the above prizes.
