Jr. Naturalist Summer Day Camp program

The Desert Discovery Center, located at 831 Barstow Rd., will be hosting a Jr. Naturalist Summer Day Camp program from July 13 – August 7, 2009. This program will provide hands-on outdoor experiences for children ages 7-12 that help stimulate curiosity, foster appreciation, and teach about the endless wonders of the Mojave Desert. The schedule for 2009 is as follows:
• Session 1, ages 10-12, July 13 – July 17
• Session 2, ages 7-9, July 20 – July 24
• Session 3, ages 9-12, July 27 – July 31
• Session 4, ages 9-12, August 3 – August 7

Session 1 & 2 will cover topics about the desert including Botany, History, Desert Safety, national parks, and endangered and non-endangered Wildlife.

Session 3 will focus on Jr. Gardening Program.

Session 4’s focus is a performing arts week focused on desert wildlife.

At least two adult educators lead each session with assistance from volunteers.

Registration is open beginning May 25, 2009 and each session is restricted to 12 children. Total camp fee is $90.00 with a $25.00 non-refundable registration fee due by June 30, 2008. This fee will be applied toward total camp fee. Please contact Rosa Yriarte at (760) 252-6060 for a registration packet. A space will be reserved only upon receipt of a completed registration form and payment. Businesses and organizations that would like to sponsor a child to attend this fun-filled summer experience are encouraged to call as well.
