Introducing…..Kelly Wrighten

kelly2Keleen “Kelly” M. Wrighten has been teaching in the Lancaster School District since 2000 teaching 6th grade at New Vista Middle School.

Mrs.Wrighten received her Liberal Arts degree from Chicago State University in 1995 and recently received a Master’s of Science for Educational Counseling from the University of La Verne in January 2009.

She has participated in various Keystone Science School courses. Kelly recently attended Generation Earth’s recycling class and would like to begin a recycling program for her school for the 2009-2010 school year to raise money for an outdoor science school.

She has coached girl’s basketball for the last two years and works with the Rosamond Youth Sports Club.

Kelly has been a very active MEEC teacher and has also participated in two EnviRetreat events held in Big Bear and Laguna Nigel. Kelly also volunteers her time and experience in many MEEC projects and events including YELC, where this year she demonstrated to students on how to build and use a solar oven, and had fun as a volunteer in the MEEC booth at the 2008 Antelope Valley Salute to Youth day held at Edwards AFB helping students spin the “Career Wheel”. More than 2,500 students explored opportunities including environmental science, service-related, military, healthcare, and many others.

Kelly is a member of the Antelope Valley MEEC Advisory Council and is active in the development of the Piute Ponds Project at Edwards AFB, which will provide curriculum and hands-on activities for “place-based” learning experiences for students grades K-12.

Kelly enjoys traveling, visiting family & friends in Chicago, IL & Columbia, S.C. She is originally from Chicago, IL, and moved to Lancaster in 1999.
