MEEC improves the environmental literacy of students, teachers, and communities of the Mojave Desert Region by actively providing educational resources.
[span6]Since earning her teaching credential from Cal State University, Bakersfield 12 years ago, Aneek daGama has been teaching in the High Desert. She spent two of those years with the Palmdale School District before she began teaching with the Lancaster School District. Aneek received her STEM certification from Project Lead The Way and is currently in her third year as the STEM teacher at Discovery School.
- Adrian Gallardo, grade 6, was the recipient of the MEEC “Outstanding Environmental Science Project Award” at the school’s awared ceremony. “He was so surprised this evening….I think he was almost in tears. He just kind of shook and stood there…so I really think Sarah (MEEC judge) picked a deserving young man”, shared his teacher Holly Bowser.
MEEC is an incredible organization that does so much for teachers and students. I'm so lucky to have found MEEC!Malissa Voegele-BidnickAlpine Elementary, Littlerock
It is through MEEC’s dedication that has enabled our students to learn and lead others on a journey that has taken them to playing an active role in their school’s appearance to confronting larger environmental issues. From the multitude of resources and workshops MEEC has offered teachers, such as YELC and the solar oven cook- offs each year, our students have grown increasingly aware of the environment that surrounds them and they are now taking part in designing and constructing an interactive garden, leading their own workshops on solar cooking, and developing plans for weekly recycling and trash clean-up crews that are completely student-run. Thank you MEEC, your contributions are changing the way teachers and students think for the betterment of their communities and the environment around them.John KellDaisy Gibson School, Palmdale
The students had a blast with the microscopes. We are amazed at the incredible patterns and details found in the tiniest of things. It is awesome to hear the “oohs” and “aahs” of the students as they study the slides. You’ve given us a peek at another world and sparked our imaginations by your generous donation!
