Nursery Products Presents  “From Garbage to Gardens” – A FREE K-12 Teacher Workshop

Join us for a FREE 2-hour  workshop that covers the basics of traditional composting– using food scraps and yard waste, as well as organic composting which includes the use of biosoilds.  At the simplest level, composting  requires collecting a heap of wetted organic matter known as “green” waste (such as leaves and food waste) and waiting for the materials to break down into humus after a period of weeks or months.  Composting is a great way to create nutrient-rich soils to add to your gardens and crops, while minimizing the waste that gets sent to landfills.  Composting is also a key ingredient in organic farming.

During this fascinating workshop, participants will learn:

  • What is composting and why it is important to the environment
  • What tools and materials you’ll need
  • Which items are compostable and which are not
  • How to harvest and use your compost
