Action combined with Wisdom gives you Power –
Power to create a better life for you and for your community.
Every student can make a difference in the world starting with their own school or community. How? Well let’s think about the groups you may know or already be a part of on campus…green club, key club, cheerleading, sport team, girl or boy scouts, the list can go on. If you aren’t involved in an organized group, but want to do something to help the environment, then why not develop your own team of students committed to improving their campus or community.
Get the tools you need at YELC 2012! This action-packed, one-day, youth leadership conference is phase one – intended to provide teams of students and their advisors with hands-on activities, Service Learning information, networking opportunities, development of leadership skills, team building and cooperation skills, scientific methodology, and ideas to develop projects about local relevant environmental issues. And…it’s all FREE!
After attending YELC, teams will develop and facilitate an ongoing service learning project in their school/community. In the spring, teams reunite for a celebration where they will present their projects, receive recognition, and have a great time seeing what other teams have done.
Attending teams are eligible to apply for special funding to implement their service learning projects.
For students in the Antelope Valley area, YELC will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2012 in Lancaster, at Mariposa Elementary School &
For students in the Victor Valley area YELC will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 in Apple Valley, at the Lewis Center for Education Research.
